Health Center

Rwanda Establishment of a Health Center in the village of Rurenge The rising number of patients at the Health Center resulted in over-occupancy and in the necessity of putting patients with different diseases in the same room. Therefore a large-scale extension became necessary, the planning of which was undertaken by the Austrian architect Helmut Schwab on a voluntary basis. The new buildings comprise a building for the doctor’s office and the laboratory, one for family planning, maternity care and care of infants, and one building with altogether 30 hospital beds in different rooms.

This project was supported by funds from the government of Lower Austria. In addition, a Voluntary Counseling and Testing Center for HIV/AIDS, financed by the Rwandese government, has been constructed on the grounds of the Health Center.

On18 November 2006 the new Health Center was officially opened. On this occasion the first workshop by AKTION REGEN on Family Planning and HIV/AIDS Prevention was held.
